Christmas has arrived in the Spooky Forest ... |
Oh, look! It's Santa, plowing our road ... |
Earlier today ...
In spite of the weather, it's really coming along ... |
It's like one of those giant 3-D jigsaw puzzles ... |
The turret really is amazing ... |
It's not easy building round walls ... |
Or probably that ceiling ... |
The spouse keeps mentioning how beautiful the view is from the second floor, knowing full well
the insomniac's aversion to heights.
It's a perfectly nice view from the ground, too. |
The ladder to the second floor ... |
The drop to the basement ... |
And the tiny piece of wood separating the two ... |
Still, one felt she should at least make an attempt to overcome heracrophobia and started the ascent, clutching the stud next to the ladder in a death grip. It was a painfully slow process. Thank goodness there wasn't anyone around to witness it.
Halfway up the ladder, fumbling for the camera in the parka pocket, trying to maintain a firm grip on the stud ...
... THEN EVER-SO-CAUTIOUSLY TURNING AROUND, WHILE HOLDING ON WITH ONLY ONE HAND, TO GET THIS PICTURE. * |
The second floor ... |
The shadow of the insomniac, five rungs from the top, bravely holding the camera above her head ... |
... before deciding it was more important she live to see the end of this project than it was to ascend those remaining five rungs, just to see if the view is as great as the spouse says it is.
Besides, the stairs will be up in another week or so.
The view isn't going anywhere ... |
Until next time,
the insomniac wishes you nights of blissful sleep filled with pleasant dreams. Goodnight, my pretties.

* You owe
the insomniac for that photo, Tristram. Keep those free drinks coming at the Christmas Party.
